This is a very thoughtful book that is suitable for anyone. It doesn’t matter what religion you believe in – or not. Or what kind of diet you follow. The goal of the book is to create wellness for your unique self. There is no wrong way. OK, back up. There are wrong ways. For example, don’t eat a bunch of pseudo processed food crap, but that’s common sense by now, isn’t it? The book is written in a very relaxed and decisive manner. The author himself believes in a “plant-based” diet, but does not push vegetarianism, or any -ism for that matter. The first part starts with the heart. Here she explains what mindfulness is and provides insights into various ancient traditions such as the Vedas, Zen Buddhism, Taoism and Stoicism. In each basic breakdown of these belief systems, she explains how these principles can be applied to modern life. From here she discusses different forms of meditation and mantras and how they can be used in modern life. After this, various stressors in life can be sent our way and we can try to work with them. Admittedly, some stressors are beyond our control. In this situation, the best thing we can do is acknowledge and accept that this is something we cannot control at this time and do our best to let it go. I personally find a successful way to find happiness and reduce stress is to stop worrying about what everyone else is doing. Just be careful what you do. Trust me, life is much better this way. I learned this years ago from a lovely 19 year old and it works. The power of the mind does not end here. She discusses the power of positive thinking and how to talk to yourself, how to identify different “victim” personality types, and how to reframe when needed various forms of outside therapy. Last in this section is continuing to learn. If you didn’t already know this, a learning mind is a healthy mind. She discusses ways to engage the mind and learn new things. The second section is about physical health. Here she discusses nutrition (note that even if you’re on a special diet, you can still use her advice, but make sure you know what you need (or don’t need) for your own health. As much of her eating suggestions as possible), exercise aka Movement, treatment (herbal treatment, massage and more). This is a very gentle book. There is no judgment, only acceptance and guidance to help you stay healthy. The third part is to promote spiritual health. It does not promote any particular religion or belief. Instead she suggests ways to help you with your spiritual health, regardless of your belief system or not. She also discusses the importance of family. By family, it doesn’t have to be blood, but what you consider family. Spiritual fitness doesn’t end there, finding ways to give to others helps us feel connected and more grateful. Individual action plans are included to help you on your journey. Note: This is not a picture book. It’s a textbook with a few fields you can fill out to help you determine what’s best for you and your personality type. I’m not sure why anyone needs or expects pictures in this type of book, but I understand that there are people who don’t like books without pictures. If you are a picture person, you may not find this book suitable for your personality. For me, this is a beautiful book. It embodies exactly what being inclusive means. It’s about the whole body. You are guided to look within yourself without judgment to better understand yourself and how to better help yourself. It can help you feel happier and more connected to others, giving you more joy in life and empathy for others.

A straightforward, leisurely read. This book doesn’t cover as much depth as I expected, but in the end I don’t look at it negatively. Rather than delving into the details, the author provided a very useful and varied overview of numerous techniques that I found useful in building a greater foundation for my own further research and wellness practices. Key takeaways, daily practices, and journal prompts are included in each chapter summary. The book is well organized and will be easy to refer to in the future. In today’s fast-paced world, where we are often juggling multiple responsibilities and dealing with various stressors, taking care of our own well-being can easily become a low priority.
